The future is looking bright for the near east side of Indianapolis.
We’re breaking down some of the development plans in the works for this side of downtown.
The former Angie’s List campus spans 13.5 acres on the city’s near east side.

Elevator Hill
What used to be the Angie’s List campus, which vacated in 2017, is now known as Elevator Hill . This 13.5-acre property is a collection of industrial space, historic buildings, parking lots, and homes. This is an ongoing project that is expected to span over 10 years and take up to $250 million to complete.
The firm leading the redevelopment project, 1820 Ventures , has a goal of reconnecting this area with the newly reopened Market Street with planned projects ranging from retail to housing to education.
Most recent plans called for:
- Up to 375,000 sqft of office space
- New neighborhood retail amenities
- Up to 500 units of multifamily housing + more than 20 units of single-family housing
- Parking garages containing at least 1,500 spaces
- Extensive street improvements
This project aims to be another premiere mixed-use district. Think Bottleworks.

Ford Building
Now, we’re looking at the old Ford Building at 1315 E. Washington St. This site used to be an automobile assembly plant, a battery manufacturing site, and a storage facility in Indy’s Holy Cross neighborhood.
In addition to TWG Development’s Ford Assembly redevelopment , it recently proposed a six-story mixed-use project just east of the Ford Building (where Ash & Elm Cider Co. Restaurant and the Assembly Apartments sit). Although the housing complex has characteristics of upscale housing, TWG is focusing the Ford Building on providing affordable housing with apartments for less than Marion County’s standard market rate.
The next piece to this project looks to be a similar concept with retail or office space on the ground level and residential above. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.
