Indianapolis spring construction updates

Major development projects across the city are making progress, with many wrapping up this spring. Here’s what to expect.

Part of the Bottleworks District expansion includes this five-story flatiron building.

The temps aren’t the only things rising around Indy. A handful of major construction projects we’ve been watching for years have sprung up quickly and are making huge springtime progress. Here’s what to keep an eye out for.

IU Health hospital: The brand new hospital near Capitol Avenue and 16th Street is taking shape, with full construction completion slated for the end of 2027. In the meantime, keep up with current road and sidewalk closures.

Bottleworks District phase two: Tenant buildout on the upper floors is likely completed, but tenants have yet to be announced. A grand opening event is still expected in 2024. If you want to take your own peek at the progress, the upcoming Bottleworks Market on Saturday, May 18 is a great excuse to stop by.

16 Tech Bridge: This bridge, the first of its kind in Marion County to give majority share to non-vehicles, is coming together quickly with the recent addition of its signature waves. The structure is still expected to open to traffic in spring 2025.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail: With several expansions currently underway, new plantings, irrigation, and pavers are being installed along the route. The next few weeks along South Street will see crews continue work with ADA ramps, sidewalks, and curb operations at the Northeast corners of Meridian St. and Pennsylvania St.

Hotel Nickel Plate: After five years, Fishers completed its revitalization of the downtown area with last week’s grand opening of Hotel Nickel Plate. Dozens of surrounding businesses have also opened recently or will be coming soon, including a Café Patachou and a Crave Cookies.
