Nearly a decade ago, The New York Times said Indy’s International Marketplace off 38th Street is “where the world comes to eat” + that statement still rings true of this 2.5 mile strip today — especially with this hot new update.

Fri., Oct. 1 will be the grand opening of the Global Village Welcome Center , which will include an event hall, classrooms, a demonstration kitchen + more. The goal of this center is to create a space that bridges cultural gaps, supports community resources, and boosts the local economy.

There, you’ll have the unique opportunity to:

  • Attend festivals that celebrate a variety of cultural backgrounds
  • Reserve the space for your own international events
  • Get married in a building that celebrates togetherness
  • See your cultural heritage represented in exhibits

All in one place.

Since 2005, Indy’s International Marketplace has grown to 900+ restaurants and businesses, with 100+ languages spoken. From Nigerian to Yemeni to Peruvian, you’ll find what you’re craving somewhere along 38th Street.

Pro tips from your INDYtoday team:

🌮 For Micheladas the size of your head + the biggest Mexican seafood selection in the city, try El Puerto de San Blas .

🥭 If you’re bored with apples + bananas, head over to Saraga International Grocery for some persimmons, dragon fruit, or a vegetable you’ve never heard of.

☕️ Losing steam? Stop by MOTW Coffee & Pastries for a chai + a piece of Yemeni Honey Comb.
