We don’t know about you but here at INDYtoday, we’d do almost anything for a good laugh — so we gave April Fools’ Day some sincere consideration. Should we hit them with some #fakenews? Report that Indianapolis is changing its name to Hoosierville? Ahhh, the possibilities.

We decided it was best to leave the tomfoolery in the hands of the experts — our local comedians. So today, we are catching up with the stand-up comedy scene in Indy + looking ahead to some big names in the comedy world who are paying us a visit.

🎤 Open mic nights

  • Helium Comedy Club | Wed., April 20 | 10 W. Georgia St. | Sign-up opens online at noon on Thurs., April 14th + closes at noon on Fri., April 15. Comics signing up should prepare three minutes of material. Helium Comedy Club said it gets over 100 sign-ups every week. If you don’t make the initial list, you’re still encouraged to come to the show.
  • Crackers Comedy Club | Thursdays at 8 p.m. | 207 N. Delaware St. | Crackers Comedy Club hosts an open mic on Thursday nights + newcomers or amateur comedians are required to bring at least five people to be in the audience for support. To schedule stage time, send an email.
  • Gutty’s Comedy Club | Mondays at 7:30 p.m. | 1251 US 31 N. Ste 120, Greenwood | Local comedians can practice their material for free with the chance to be selected to perform at a stand up comedy showcase at Gutty’s Comedy Club. This is a clean club that does not allow swearing, sexual innuendos, or racially charged material.
