Dreaming of gold: Olympians with ties to Indy competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics

Indy is well-represented on the world stage at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics — here are some locals to watch.

Light the torch and cue that iconic Olympics theme song — we’re ready for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics happening Friday, July 26 to Sunday, Aug. 11.

At this summer’s Olympic Games, approximately 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees will compete across 32 sports — including some new ones. Since we’re all about keeping it local, we’ve rounded up seven Paris 2024 Olympians with ties to Indy that you should keep your eye on. Let the Games begin.

Lilly King, Swimming

IU graduate Lilly King’s first-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke during the trials at Lucas Oil Stadium qualified her for Team USA, making this her third Olympics appearance. King dominates in the breaststroke. She has already won five Olympic medals, including two gold.

Cole Hocker, Track and Field

Cathedral High School graduate Cole Hocker is one of the top distance runners in the world. The 23-year-old finished sixth in the 1500 meters in his first Olympic Games in Tokyo and has a shot at medaling in Paris.

Brandon Loschiavo, Diving

The Purdue alum was added to the US Olympic Team after USA Diving officials said they were notified by World Aquatics that an additional quota spot for the men’s 10-meter opened up for Team USA due to the withdrawal of a confirmed athlete.

This will be Brandon’s second Olympic Games — he competed in Tokyo in 2020.

Matt Anderson, Volleyball

This four-time Olympic competitor won Bronze in Rio in 2016 + is going to Paris. His wife Jackie grew up in Indianapolis and went to St. Matthew, Cathedral, and IU. They bought their house in Zionsville in 2019.

Canyon Barry, Basketball

This Fort Wayne native is going to his first Olympics to compete in men’s 3x3 basketball.

Drew Kibler, Swimming

Drew Kibler hails from the Carmel Swim Club. The freestyle swimmer is highly motivated to win a medal in Paris after finishing fourth in the 4x200 freestyle relay at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Blake Pieroni, Swimming

Paris 2024 marks the third Olympics for this standout swimmer from Chesterton. Pieroni — an Indiana University alum — will once again compete in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

Alex Shackell, Swimming

At just 17 years old, Alex Shackell has become the first female swimmer from Carmel to make it to the Olympics. Her brother, Aaron, also made the swimming team for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Tyrese Haliburton, Basketball

The Indiana Pacers star will be playing for Team USA and also participated in the world championships.

Tyler Downs, Diving

Tyler Downs, who trains in Noblesville, made the Olympic team four years ago when he was just 17 years old. After finishing 23rd in springboard diving in Tokyo, he’s back and chasing a medal with Purdue’s Greg Duncan. The two took first place in the men’s 3-meter synchronized springboard to qualify for Paris.

Sarah Bacon, Diving

Cardinal Ritter High School graduate Sarah Bacon will be competing in the 3-meter springboard alongside teammate + friend Kassidy Cook. The 27-year-old already has also won a national title.

Chloé Dygert, Cycling

The Brownsburg native studied at Marian University. Paris marks her third time competing in the Olympics. She won gold at the 2023 World Championships.

  • Drew Kibler: 4x200 freestyle relay (swimming)

🥉 Bronze medals

  • Chloe Dygert: Individual time trial (cycling)
  • Matt Anderson: Tournament volleyball
