Move over, pickleballor at least make a little room for another racket sport in town. We’re talking about padel, which is rapidly growing in popularity across the US. If you want to get ahead of the curve and play locally, here’s what to know.

What is padel?

Padel (pronounced like “paddle”) was invented in Mexico in 1969, but found its footing in Spain in the 1970s. It’s best described as a cross between tennis and squash, played on a smaller court that’s enclosed by walls — which are also part of the game. The sport is typically played in pairs, and this how-to guide outlines the key rules.
