How you can take part in the NCAA tournament first, second rounds in Indy

Indianapolis is hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, but even if you don’t have tickets to a game — you can still get in on the action.

Ready for a slam dunk week? You can experience the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament hosted by IUPUI and the Horizon League on Friday, March 22 + Sunday, March 24 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

This past Sunday, the bracket was released for the tournament and ICYMI: Purdue University landed the No. 1 seed in the Midwestern Region and will play at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Friday. The Boilermakers (29-4) will play either Grambling State or Montana State, who will face each other Wednesday in the First Four play-in round in Dayton, Ohio.

Here’s the full schedule of teams that will face off in Indy:

Friday, March 22

Session 1: Doors open at 12:30 p.m.

  • 2 p.m. - (15) Western Kentucky vs. (2) Marquette
  • 4:30 p.m. - (10) Boise State/Colorado vs. (7) Florida

Get Session 1 tickets.

Session 2: Doors open after the conclusion of Session 1.

  • 7:25 p.m. - Grambling/Montana St. vs. (1) Purdue
  • 9:55 p.m. - (9) TCU vs. (8) Utah State

Get Session 2 tickets.

Sunday, March 24

  • Second round game times and matchups will be announced after the conclusion of Friday’s games. Get Sunday tickets.

If you’re going to a game, be sure to head downtown early to give yourself plenty of time to find parking. Pro tip: You’ll also want to travel light. Gainbridge Fieldhouse’s bag policy only allows small clutch-style purses.

Can’t make the games or don’t want to shell out the money for tickets? You can cheer on your favorite teams at Fan Zone on Bicentennial Unity Plaza next to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. All weekend long, you can enjoy food and drinks from local vendors, live music, giveaways, and interactive games like knockout competitions from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free + there’s no ticket required.
