The Maker Movement is alive and well in Indy, thanks to these makerspaces.

Don’t know what a makerspace is? It’s like a co-working space, but in addition to laptops + coffee, there are laser-cutters and recording studios.

If you’re a maker, there are spaces for you in Indy, including these:

💻 Machyne, 1220 Waterway Blvd.

As part of the 16 Tech Innovation District, Machyne is the newest industrial makerspace in Indy, providing high-tech tools + flexible spaces for those who want to create. They have a workshop equipped with tools for welding + woodworking, a design space for programmers, and a media lab for up-and-coming podcasters, photographers, and videographers.

⚙️ Club Cyberia, 6800 E 30th St.

The mission of nonprofit Cyberia LTD is to reduce the stress of modern living by teaching individuals hands-on creativity. It has a workshop, 3D printers, a welder, laser + plasma cutter and offers instruction on most of the tools.

Pro tip: It’s having an open house from 1-5 p.m. tomorrow if you want to learn more about using its mill + lathe.

🎙️Soundspace, 1125 E. Brookside Ave.

A co-working space for musicians, Soundspace provides rehearsal + recording space to growing musicians, working to “erase the barriers to a professional music career.” If you think you’ve heard of them, they recently made news with the announcement of their project, Indy Music Cooperative, which will create even more spaces for musicians to produce inside a currently unfinished section of the Circle City Industrial Complex near Mass Ave.
