The wait is over.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen — who just helped lead the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII — has been hired as the new Colts head coach.

Confirming the news, Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted, “Welcome Coach Steichen,” Tuesday morning.

The team was reportedly waiting for Shane to finish coaching the Eagles in Sunday’s Super Bowl to finalize the deal and bring him to Indianapolis on Monday.

About Shane

Shane, 37, had been with the Eagles since 2021 and was following in similar footsteps as the Colts’ former head coach Frank Reich, who was also offensive coordinator for the Eagles before coming to Indianapolis to coach in 2018.

Before going to Philadelphia, Shane spent 2014-2020 with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. He also worked alongside former Colts offensive coordinator and current Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

In his first press conference representing the Colts, Shane said his coaching is “going to look differently each week but [his] philosophy is we’re gonna throw to score points in this league and run to win.”

Jeff Saturday, who replaced Frank Reich mid-season and was in the running for the position, tweeted a video message thanking the Colts for the opportunity and wished Shane the best of luck.

“I want to wish Coach Steichen the best of luck. I’m still a huge Colts fan and pulling for you guys, looking forward to hoisting some Lombardi trophies, and excited for your opportunities,” Jeff said.

Fun fact: Shane was a quarterback before starting his coaching career. He was QB in 23 games for University of Nevada, Las Vegas from 2003-2006, throwing for 2,755 yards with 22 touchdowns.

He and former Colts wide receiver Austin Collie teamed up to lead their team at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado, California to a conference sectional title in 2002.
