Last week, the city and Indy Parks broke ground on a new basketball pavilion at Wes Montgomery Park on the near northeast side.

The pavilion will consist of two full-sized and two half-sized basketball courts with a covered shelter structure.

The park currently features a splash pad, open green space, and uncovered basketball courts. The new pavilion — which is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and capital improvement funds — will be the first covered, open-air basketball court in the Indy Parks system.

The new basketball pavilion is set to be complete by the end of the year.

This may have you wondering, “who was Wes Montgomery?” Well, he was a jazz guitarist who launched his career in Indianapolis and became recognized as one of the world’s greatest jazz guitarists. You can learn more about him by watching this documentary.
